SFBK Community Group CLG is a group of local volunteers redeveloping the community centre and pitch at The Spa Village, so that everyone in the area can use them, all year round. The current focus, Phase 1, includes refurbishing the existing hall and installing a new all-weather multi-sports pitch. Kerry County Council granted planning permission on 16 June 2026 for Phase 1.
-
Phase 1: Renovate the community centre including safe removal of the old asbestos roofing, replace windows and doors, floor, and install heating; install an all-weather multi-sports pitch with floodlighting, fencing and drainage, install perimeter walkway and outdoor exercise stations.
Later phases, as funding allows: extension with meeting rooms, after-school space and studio; courts and further sports facilities; (subject to planning permissions and funding).
-
Everyone in Spa, Fenit, Barrow, The Kerries and Kilfenora and surrounding areas. The pitch will be available to clubs, schools and teams of all ages and sports, such as GAA, soccer, athletics and tag rugby. The renovated hall can host groups such as exercise and dance classes, after-school groups, and community and cultural activities. Spa National School and local clubs have been consulted.
-
No, SFBK does not own the site but holds a signed 25-year lease, signed in July 2026, and the landlord has given written permission for the capital works.
-
The centre and pitch will be community-run by a SFBK Community Group management group and will be open to all - not run by any single club.
-
We hope to start building in 2027, depending on grant decisions and funding.
A €100,000 application to Pobal was submitted in July 2026, with a decision expected in December 2026.
We expect to apply to the Community Sports Facilities Fund when its application window opens on 19 October 2026 (it closes on 26 February 2027).
Our fundraising drive for Phase 1 began in October 2026.
We will post updates here as decisions arrive.

We are inviting every household to donate €300 towards the project, or more if you can. A donation of any size is welcome, and you can give in instalments. There is no obligation, and nobody will be pressured. Whether you give, and how much, stays confidential: only the small team handling donations will see it.
-
Grants will not cover the full cost of the project, so there will be a shortfall. We are asking households, businesses and corporate sponsors to help make up that shortfall, so your donation is one part of the funding.
